Guy Smith finishes Second in 2015 Blancpain endurance Series
Yorkshire's Guy Smith, career sportscar driver and Bentley Boy, clinched the runner-up spot in the 2015 Blancpain Endurance Series for the second consecutive year after an outstanding race at Germany's Nürburgring. Together with British teammates Andy Meyrick and Steven Kane, Guy finished the three-hour race in second place in his Bentley Continental GT3, after an incredibly tense final hour.
Sunday morning's qualifying session saw the Bentley Boys secure P7 on the grid. As has become customary, Guy started the race in the #7 car, and on the opening lap immediately moved up a place. A close battle with the sister #8 Continental GT3 of Bentley Team M-Sport followed, with Guy moving up to P5 and then maintaining a close gap to the cars ahead - which would prove vital.
After an hour and ten minutes, Guy handed the car to Andy Meyrick, who was able to continue the pressure Guy applied. Steven Kane took over for the final hour, and with 15 minutes to go was able to move from P3 to P2 to secure the vital points needed for the runners-up spot in the championship - missing out on winning the title outright by just four points. The podium finish also meant that Bentley Team M-Sport ended the Teams' Championship in second place for the second year running.
After the race, Guy said:
“The Bentley Continental GT3 has been incredibly strong all season and the team has done a great job to give us a fantastic car at every round. It's disappointing to come so close to the championship titles but we are proud of everything the team has achieved in just two years, and we finish the season with silverware again."
Guy now returns home to spend time with his wife and three daughters, and to begin his preparations for the 2016 racing season.
